What We Miss About Gearbox Standards

I've been reviewing deliverable specs for a while now—specifically around power transmission components. And there's one thing that frustrates me every single time: the assumption that standard means settled.

Last quarter, we received a batch of bonfiglioli gear motor units where the oil fill spec was visibly different from what we'd agreed on. The vendor said, "The oil type? We swapped it. Is every oil update critical? No. But without checking, you're betting the reliability of your system on someone else's decision about a detail you could have verified in five minutes. That's not a risk I'm comfortable taking.
